It is a full moon on the plate
Pulling my tides
Striking the balance between
Substance and light
My fork pierces it easily
But does not slide through it frivolously
And once in my mouth
It does everything right
Believe me
It feels so good
To swallow the moon

Wow...delicious metaphor...now I am hungry...and I just had breakfast.
ReplyDeleteEating the moon. That's some eating.
ReplyDeleteof course! the moon is made of cheesecake! i knew something was missing every time they told me it was made of cheese. :)
ReplyDeleteNow I want cheesecake.
ReplyDeleteYum!
Pamela
You're making me hungry ... and I don't even like cheesecake. :) Nice verse!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true about cheesecake! "And once in my mouth it does everything right" I can feel the cheesecake going down with that last line! Yum!
ReplyDeleteThe real way of the moon is cheesecake - love this slice!
ReplyDeleteThis is food porn. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I like it.
ReplyDeleteLove that line "pulling my tides!" Well written, Erin
ReplyDeleteI'm off dairy so this was a poignant piece! Lovely poem, witty and sensual. Glad to have found your blog (via your visiting mine!)
ReplyDeleteMark-sorry I made you hungry again, but thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteChristopher-It is some eating, indeed!
Carolee-glad I could educate you on the true nature of the moon. :0)
Pamela-I hope you went ahead and indulged yourself!
Mad Kane-Thanks! Now go eat something you love.
Jeanne-Thank you! I'm glad.
Tumblewords-Thank you!
Ron--I take that as a high compliment. I think food porn is the only kind of porn I'm capable of writing.
liv2write2day-I'm glad you like that line. I wasn't sure about it at first.
Dick-Thank you! Glad to have found your blog, too.
Oh, I love this because I love cheesecake. It is like eating the moon, you marvelous wordsmith you. Here's an idea: you could order a cheesecake to be sent to Gabby Giffords' husband care of the Houston hospital where she is now, along with this poem. I bet that astronaut and other members of the family would love it!
ReplyDeleteYummy- very clever analogy. I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteMmm. I love your moon-eating poem.
