Day 23 and it Feels Like Herding Cats

the bad stanzas
hiss and scratch at my eyes
before they run away
the good ones
are also hard to herd
they dart around the room
and knock over vases
before purring and curling
themselves
nicely on my page
and even then, I am left
needing an antihistamine
when we’re done

Here's what I did with today's NaPoWriMo prompt "unlikely couples"...

  1. Erin, I love this, a reminder of how poetry can be a problem to solve and until we do it can be uncomfortable. Allergy season here in western Oregon and we understand the imagery!

  2. This one made me smile. My dog is a border collie and actually tries to herd aroung my 3 cats. xoxo

  3. Words need us about as much as cats, right?

  4. Very nicely done! I could see them (the cats) zooming around the room to evade you. This is great fun.

  6. A very relatable analogy, I must say. ;) I nodded my head in agreement, several times, as I read through the poem. And the allergy at the end -- that made me grin. Cheers.
